Good profile necessity in harvest time

Slowly, you are starting to prepare for the corn harvest. Whereas in the past this harvest for silage corn was almost standard between mid-September and mid-October, today the harvest period - due to new early maturing corn varieties - can sometimes start as early as mid-August. It is therefore important to check your equipment in the summer and order the tires you need in time. The farmer also checks in advance the legal rules for maize cultivation in relation to catch crops (see below).
Good profile necessity in harvest time

Be prepared

With our years of experience, we know how hectic the period shortly before and during harvest time can be. There is certainly a risk that machinery will be idle longer than you would like. In the summer you have just more time to check the tires of harvesters, silage wagons and the like. It prevents you from unpleasant surprises. We like to help you, which is why we have the tires you need in stock. Even in the summer. So you are well prepared for the corn season!

Legal rules corn cultivation

There are game rules from the State (Netherlands) regarding the cultivation of corn on sandy or loess soil. Be well prepared and read through the rules here.

From 2021, you must report in advance which plots you want to use to grow corn on, this applies to sandy and loess soil. The following conditions are attached:

  • you report the intended maize cultivation to RVO.nl no later than February 15;
  • You may only spread slurry and/or liquid sewage sludge on the reported plots from 1 April onwards.

Attention! If you do not register your plot no later than February 15, then you are not allowed to grow maize on this plot. If you are not sure on which plots you will grow maize, then register all potential plots. You can withdraw them after February 15.

Did you know ...:

  • Corn absorbs more CO2 per year and produces more oxygen than a hectare of forest?
  • Growing corn every year or every two years is best alternated with growing grass on the same plot of land?
  • That growing both grass and maize consecutively in the same year together produces lower yields?
  • A good soil structure is very important for the rooting of the maize plants? Take this into account when turning or preparing the soil and when sowing, by choosing the right tire pressure (the lowest possible pressure is recommended). We will be happy to advise you on the correct tire pressure.
