This is how tyres are filled with water
The wheel is turned so that the valve is at the top. Then the in or up valve is unscrewed, in the opening the filling nipple is placed. This is connected to a water hose. The filling nipple expels air during the water supply. After filling, the nipple is removed and the valve replaced.
The tyre is never 100% full of water, about 25% of the tyre remains filled with air. This allows the tyre to be inflated in the normal way.
Calcium chloride (CaCl2)
With water filling, it is important to take measures to protect against frost.
Usually calcium chloride (CaCl2) is added to the water for this purpose in the following concentrations:
Example
75% of the volume of a tire size 600/65R38 is 500 liters (for all sizes and their corresponding 75% volumes see the table below). When an anti-freezing temperature
of -20 °C is used, water fill should be added in the following proportions:
- Volume of CaCl2 500 x 0.24 = 120 kg
- Volume of water 500 x 0.90 = 450 kg
- Total weight added 500 x 1.14 = 570 kg
Warning:
- For small quantities, add CaCl2 to the water while stirring
- Never pour water on top of CaCl2
- Do not use CaCl2 as an antifreeze for engine cooling water
