Improved performances of the new AEOLUS AL419 L4 tyres

Since 2004, Heuver Tyres from the Netherlands has been the official distributor of Aeolus commercial vehicle tyres for no fewer than nine European countries, including BeNeLux, Germany and France. An important part of the Aeolus range is its earthmoving tyres, where the company offers a wide range of patterns and sizes for different types of machines such as graders, wheel loaders, articulated dumpers, rigid dump trucks and mobile cranes. Aeolus is continually working to expand its product portfolio and further develop existing patterns.

Aeolus has recently launched a range of new earthmoving tyres. Aeolus will also have a number of new product releases in the final quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2025. This applies to tyres for wheel loaders, articulated dumpers, rigid dump trucks, as well as for mobile excavators and MPT tyres, which will of course also be available from Heuver Tyres.

The new Aeolus AL419 (L4T)

Aeolus launched an all-new L4 tyre for “load & carry” applications in Q2 2024 (initially in 26.5R25 and 29.5R25); the AL419. This tyre is comparable in pattern to the Bridgestone VSNT and the Michelin XLD D1A. The 150% deep tread provides tremendous traction and comfort. In addition to the 23.5R25 (following in the fourth quarter of 2024), 26.5R25 and 29.5R25 sizes, the AL419 will also be marketed in 20.5R25 from the fourth quarter of 2024, which is quite unique as this type of tyre is hardly available in this size from other tyre manufacturers.

Initial test results are promising

A test is currently being carried out at a recycling plant in the Netherlands. A Volvo wheel loader L150H is used here for loading and transport work. The machine, with a maximum speed of 20 km/h and a maximum load of 8 tons, is equipped with 26.5R25 AEOLUS AL419 L4 tyres. These tyres were installed after 5,615 hours of use and had an original tread depth of 57 mm.

Less wear and better performance

Frank Wilmink, Account Manager for OTR tyres at Heuver Tyres, says: “After 1,231 operating hours, the tread depth of the AEOLUS AL419 tyres is still 48 mm, which indicates wear of only 9 mm. Even if we cannot yet draw any conclusions about the overall service life, we can already see that the new AL419 tyres offer better traction in this area of use. This is a significant improvement compared to the previously used AE47 tyres from Aeolus. A set of 26.5R25 AEOLUS AE47 tyres fitted to a comparable Volvo L180H were fitted at 14,500 hours of use. With an original tread depth of 50 mm, these tyres have a remaining tread depth of 34 mm after 1,251 hours of operation, which corresponds to wear of 16 mm.”

Load bearing capacity and security

The load capacity of the AEOLUS AL419 L4 tyres is impressive. With a cold measured air pressure of 4.0 bar, these tyres can withstand a load of 13,650 kg per tyre at 10 km/h. This ensures safe and efficient operation of the machine even under extreme conditions.

Overall lifespan forecast

Data and calculations:

Front tyres:
  • New AL419 tread depth: 57 mm
  • Current wear: 9 mm at 1,231 operating hours
  • Remaining tread depth: 57 mm - 9 mm = 48 mm
  • Wear per operating hour: 9 mm / 1,231 operating hours ≈ 0.0073 mm per operating hour
  • Expected total service life: 57 mm / 0.0073 mm per operating hour ≈ 7,808 operating hours
Comparison with AE47 tyres:
  • New AE47 tread depth: 50 mm
  • Current wear: 16 mm at 1,251 operating hours
  • Remaining tread depth: 50 mm - 16 mm = 34 mm
  • Wear per operating hour: 16 mm / 1,251 operating hours ≈ 0.0128 mm per operating hour
  • Expected total service life: 50 mm / 0.0128 mm per operating hour ≈ 3,906 operating hours

Conclusion and recommendation

Anne Bouwmeester, Business Unit Manager OTR tyres at Heuver Tyres, summarizes: “The AEOLUS AL419 tyres have an expected total service life of approximately 7,808 operating hours, which is a significant improvement compared to the AE47 tyres with an expected service life of 3,906 represents operating hours. In addition, the AL419 tyres provide better traction, which is essential for loading and transport work at the recycling plant.”

“For operators looking for reliable, long-lasting tyres for their recycling wheel loaders, the AEOLUS AL419 L4 tyres offer an excellent combination of performance, safety and cost-effectiveness. The improved traction and longer lifespan make these tyres a valuable investment for your fleet.”

Regular air pressure testing for maximum efficiency

Bouwmeester continues: “To get the most out of your tyres, it is important to check the air pressure weekly. Proper tyre pressure ensures optimal performance, reduces wear and increases safety. By regularly checking and adjusting the air pressure, the tyres can reach their maximum service life and perform reliably even under harsh conditions.”
